FANTASIA RECEIVES HATE MAIL

Fantasia is receiving hate mail.

The "American Idol" winner had just finished a performance of "The Color Purple" in Los Angeles Friday when the letter was delivered in a stack of fan mail, TMZ.com reports.

Fantasia's manager told TMZ that the singer became "alarmed" over the racially charged note, which included the n-word and a line that read "go back where you came from and die."

Sources told TMZ the letter-writer claims to have worked as a security guard for Fox during Fantasia's "Idol" run.

The incident was reported to the LAPD, and the venue, Pantages Theater, has stepped up its security measures.

Fantasia isn't running scared, however. She told TMZ, "I will not be defeated by one person's hatred."

The series for VH1 is slated to premiere in early 2010. The show will focus on the nine-time Grammy nominee's life as a recording artist and 24-year-old single mother.

"Fantasia has one of the most fascinating stories in show business, from her tough upbringing to her meteoric rise on the national scene thanks to 'American Idol,' " Jeff Olde, executive vice president of original programming at VH1, said in a statement announcing the show. "Her challenges from fame and her unwillingness to fail have combined to create a larger-than-life talent who appeals to music lovers around the world. So many people wanted to work with her on this, but Fantasia is now part of the VH1 family, and we're so happy to have her."

The title of the VH1 show and the length of the run have not yet been announced.

Fantasia is currently working on her third studio album, due out this year, and has been tapped to reprise her Broadway role as Celie in the film adaptation of "The Color Purple" musical.

Fantasia has confirmed that she will re-enroll in high school to finally earn her diploma after dropping out of ninth grade about a decade ago.

"I've been talking about it for so long," Fantasia, 24, told E! Online Friday. "I have a lot of young people who look up to me, like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. It's something that I really need to do and that I want to do."

Looks like Fantasia gets to keep her house.

Fantasia Barrino is no longer facing foreclosure on her $1.3 million home, her attorneys have announced.

An auction of the six bedroom, 6,232-square-foot mansion in Charlotte, North Carolina was scheduled to take place today -- but she struck a deal with her Florida-based creditors to keep her home for now. She could still lose it at a future auction if a settlement is not reached.

"Assuming the promised payments all get paid as indicated, we will be satisfied," Larry Goldman, the lawyer representing lender Broward Energy Partners, told the New York Post. "I didn't want to take her house."

The 24-year-old still owes $65,000 -- money she borrowed in 2006 to pay back taxes to the IRS. Her last payment of $10,000 was made in August 2007.

Barrino has agreed to a repayment plan, but the creditor's lawyer didn't release details.

"Reading between the lines, I'm assuming the money is not there or, at least, it's not there in the short-term," Goldman told the Post. "My client just wants to be paid."

This isn't the first time the 2004 Idol champ has faced foreclosure. In 2005, she nearly lost a 4,500-square-foot home in the same neighborhood. plus a $240,000 Mercedes. Both matters were resolved in court, although tax records show she owes $14,678 for that residence.

Local sheriff's deputies told the New York Post they've been trying "at least a dozen times" to reach Fantasia regarding $65,000 she owes on a loan, without success.

According to the paper, a lawyer was not present to represent her in court about the bill, and her reps have yet to offer any explanation.

Her multi-million dollar Charlotte home is going on the auction block Monday.

They don’t have to [but] that’s a favor,” Fantasia said. “Working with someone like Miss Oprah who’s so talented and amazing - It’s a blessing.”

The movie musical will be the third big budget adaptation of the popular.

FANTASIA TAKES A BREAK

Since summer, spies have reported that American Idol winner Fantasia - the occasional star of "The Color Purple" - has missed nearly 50 performances. Following a three-week vacation caused by the strike, she dropped last Friday's performance, causing pandemonium in the lobby of the Broadway Theatre.



Fantasia's absences have wreaked havoc at the box office. When she took over the role of Celie last April from Tony winner LaChanze, "The Color Purple" began grossing more than $1 million a week.

Since the American Idol began dropping performances, producers have refunded tens of thousands of dollars worth of tickets.

"I'm not making excuses for her," a source says, "but she lives the role when she's onstage, and it's taken an emotional toll on her. She's just not up to doing eight performances a week."
