DETROIT MAYOR FACES HOT WATER

According to the Associated Press, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick exchanged romantic text messages with a top aide, contradicting their denials in court that they had romantic ties.



The county prosecutor's office declined to comment on the legal implications of the report, posted Wednesday on the Detroit Free Press' Web site. A conviction of lying under oath can bring up to 15 years' imprisonment.

Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty testified last summer in a police whistle-blower lawsuit and denied any sexual or romantic ties in 2002 and 2003. But the Free Press said it examined about 14,000 text messages on Beatty's city-issued pager from those years and found many examples of such ties.

Kilpatrick is married, and Beatty was married at the time.

"I'm madly in love with you," Kilpatrick wrote on Oct. 3, 2002.
"I hope you feel that way for a long time," Beatty replied. "In case you haven't noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!"

On Oct. 16, 2002, Kilpatrick wrote Beatty: "I've been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days. Relaxing, laughing, talking, sleeping and making love."
In his testimony last summer, at one point Kilpatrick expressed anger about claims of an affair between him and Beatty.

"I think it was pretty demoralizing to her — you have to know her — but it's demoralizing to me as well," the mayor said. "My mother is a congresswoman. There have always been strong women around me. My aunt is a state legislator. I think it's absurd to assert that every woman that works with a man is a whore.

"I think it's disrespectful not just to Christine Beatty but to women who do a professional job that they do every single day. And it's also disrespectful to their families as well."

Kilpatrick issued a statement Wednesday night saying the messages "reflect a very difficult period in my personal life."

"It is profoundly embarrassing to have these extremely private messages now displayed in such a public manner," he said. "My wife and I worked our way through these intensely personal issues years ago. I would now ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of my wife and children and of Christine Beatty and her children at this deeply painful moment for our families."

The Free Press did not explain exactly how it obtained the text messages but said it was outside a lawsuit it filed to get all records related to the settlement the city reached with two former police officers.

The newspaper said it cross-referenced the text messages with the mayor's private calendar and credit card records from that period to verify events in some messages.
When asked whether the Wayne County prosecutor's office would open an investigation, spokeswoman Maria Miller said: "We have not received anything from anyone. Other than that, we have no comment."

According to NY Post's Page Six column, the breakup of Tracey Edmonds and Eddie Murphy never became legal because Murphy became bossy and physically intimidating, and insisted his mother accompany them on their honeymoon.

"That was kind of the last straw," said a friend of the beautiful bride. "She was happy to sign a prenup — she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eddie became very controlling and they got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared." So we all know that Kanye West's crew has been enjoying some intense Connect Four sessions during downtime while touring overseas on the international run of the Glow in the Dark Tour.

A couple of weeks ago, photos of 'Ye losing to Beyoncé were posted on Kanye's kanyeuniversecity.com website. Then last week, footage of Jay-Z playing G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence hit the Internet. Of course, Jay won.

"We went at it when we was on the Glow tour," Consequence, a guest on Kanye's first two albums, said recently in New York. "[Jay] flew out for the show. I had just finished snappin' everybody. Officers from Scotland Yard have confirmed that they will investigate the video footage of Amy Winehouse apparently smoking drugs from a glass pipe, according to BBC News. "We will assess the footage to ascertain whether any action needs to be taken," a police official said of the disturbing footage, which was reportedly shot recently

LIL WAYNE ARRESTED

Rapper Lil Wayne and two unknown members of his entourage were arrested for drug possession by DEA agents in Yuma, Arizona, at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan 22). According to a DEA spokesperson, Wayne's tour bus was stopped on Interstate 8 by border patrol. The highway apparently has several checkpoint stops due to its reputation for frequent trafficking of drugs and illegal aliens.

Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Carter Jr.) was released at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday (January 23) after posting $10,000 bail at the Walton Justice Court, according to CBS 5 in Phoenix.

During a search of the bus — which was also occupied by seven other passengers and a driver — the border patrol and police canines found drugs, over $22,000 in cash and three firearms. One of the guns, a .40-caliber pistol, was registered to Wayne in Florida. He could face gun charges if he violated any weapons laws in Arizona. The other two weapons were legally registered to members of Wayne's camp.

The authorities also discovered 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy and various drug paraphernalia. The DEA was immediately called in to investigate and subsequently arrested the three men. As of now, Wayne is charged with possession of cocaine, ecstasy and drug paraphernalia because the drugs were allegedly found in a bag that belonged to him. His associates were brought in for the marijuana. All three were taken into custody at the Yuma City County Jail around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
