Director John Singleton accidentally struck a woman with his SUV who was jaywalking on a South Los Angeles street Thursday evening, according to police.
The woman, Constance Russell, 57, of L.A., was taken to a local hospital but died later Friday morning. "Mr. Singleton stopped immediately and later identified himself to police," says Los Angeles police spokesman Jason Lee. "He was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was cooperative, and was questioned and released." "This is being treated as an unfortunate accident," Officer Lee added. "There will be no criminal charges." Singleton, 39, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director in 1991 for his acclaimed film, Boyz N the Hood.
Wow...these are always unfortunate situations - for the victim's family of course and for the person who caused the accident. Gosh, I can't imagine having that on my mind.
